Karate

Maria Marfleet is the Technical Director of Severn Area Shotokai.

Born in 1948 in Portland in the county of Dorset, Maria started practising in 1981 because her eldest daughter needed someone to go to karate with and hasn’t looked back since.

She was awarded her 1st Dan in 1986 by Mitsusuke Harada and was awarded her 5th Dan in 1997 by Colin Reeve and later by the Shotokai Foundation . In 2004 she decided that Severn Area Shotokai Karate would benefit by being its own organization, where she could further her own and others development with Karate. The influence of Harada Sensei and Colin Reeve shows in her practice, the way she understands Karate and how she is always thinking of ways to improve the teaching and understanding of Karate.
